Opening and closing a jump ring can be challenging for anyone! Especially if the ring is made with thick wire, and you don't want to mark/scratch up the metal OR distort the round shape. We've seen all kinds of techniques and tools over the past 20 years, and here is the simplest way with two tools: flat nose and chain nose pliers.
The added benefit of this method is that it also strengthens the ring by hardening the metal as as you rock it back and forth.
Good luck! Making jewelry is so much fun!
